CrossFit - My new obsession

So I have a new obsession that I wanted to share...other than those really tasty green monsters!

At the beginning of April I joined a special group workout program called CrossFit. I LOVE IT! Every morning I come to the gym and I don't know what the workout is going to be. It might be more resistance work, 1/2 mile sprints, push-ups or tire jumps...it's kind of like a boot camp! The part I love is the competition....those of you who know me well, know that I thrive on competition. So each workout is timed and they post the results on the board....love it!

I am just coming up on my 11th week and I am really excited about my progress. I definitely couldn't run a mile when I first started, and just last week I ran 5 miles in under an hour.

As motivation, they take photos of us doing our workouts each day...so you can see how you're improving...oh, and also to show off the wonderful faces we make when we're trying really hard. There are a few on the daily CrossFit blog that I definitely wish were deleted, if only to protect your eyes. Actually, whenever they take a really bad photo I always email it to my best friend Molly. She said nothing has ever made her laugh that hard before! =)

So here are some of the typical workout activities we do...

Wall Ball: throwing a medicine ball to about 12 feet and catching it in a squat.

Double Unders: getting the rope under twice in one jump. I finally did this one last week!

Box Jumps: So far haven't killed myself on these yet, though I've attempted to bite it a couple times!

Overhead Press: They put the medicine ball underneath to make you go all the way down each time... not so that it looks like you are laying an egg! Though this photo kind looks like I'm laying an egg.

Pull Ups: This is my next challenge...I still have to do a little hop, but would love to get to the point where I could do a real one! Look at that focus! =)

Medicine Ball Run: I ran with a 20-pounder this morning. Last time we did this we almost caused an accident on the main road in front of the gym. At 7:30am, ladies running with massive medicine balls, is quite a sight to see...cars were staring at us instead of each other. Let's just call it a near collision!

Dips: Kinda what they look like, but just not as fun!

So there's my show-n-tell! It's been fun to go from doing girly push-ups to real ones, from single jump ropes to double, from 12 minute miles to 9:30... it's like school all over again where you get the gold stars! Now I know why that works so well with the kids! =)

Have a great week!
