Bacon is Good for Me

Okay, I admit it... from time to time I watch "Wife Swap." That show where the two moms, from completely different families, switch places for a week.

A few months ago we watched one episode that was absolutely hilarious. The "drill sergeant" mom was put with a family that never exercises and eats lots of bad food.

Of course her first action it to get rid of all the junk food. Which doesn't go over well with the youngest son. The kid FREAKS out when she takes away his prized BACON!!

Anyways, someone decided to create a re-mix of the clips from the show, and I have been cracking up ever since....guess you maybe have to see the outtakes from the show to get the full effect. Needless to say it is a catchy tune and we've been singing it around the house for a couple weeks....the clip hits the chorus around 45 seconds....

Or, if the clip isn't working, you can see it here....

Inspired by the song I had this shirt made for Jeremy as a surprise! Now, we'll see if he actually wears it in public!

Fight Gone Bad

This morning I went to a Crossfit competition called "Fight Gone Bad." Jeremy thinks that the title sounds a little violent, and he would rather we call it, "Peacefully we come together to workout and raise money," but I think his is a little too long of a title!

Here's my Crossfit Family, Carrie and Stephen (the second and third from the left) are the owners/trainers of the gym. Carrie is over 4 months pregnant and even she took part in the workout!
Trying to intimidate the competition..might need to work on that one a little more!
Yep, Jeremy came to be a supportive husband and make sure that I wasn't recruited for American Gladiators while I was there!
First they paired us up with a coach, who would be our official counter. I was paired with Jonathan, a soccer player from Incarnate Word University...he was really helpful!
So here's how the race goes...there are 5 exercises:
(1) Push Press (45lbs)
(2) Rowing Machine
(3) Wall Ball
(4) Sumo Deadlift High Pull (45lbs)
(5) Box Jump (20 inch box)

You do each exercise for one minute, trying to get in as many repetitions as possible.

After your first round (of the 5 exercises) you get one minute of rest...and then you do it all over again! There are three rounds in total.

Here is my first exercise of the day, Push press...you can see I look pretty relaxed here!
Umm, yea, this is the same exercise but on my third round...let's just say I was feeling it by then!
Then the rowing machine...
Then the wall ball...
Then the sumo deadlift high pulls...
Then the box jump... this picture kind cracked me up because it looks like I am worlds away from the box, and you can see my coach trying to get me to use my arm swing to get up on top of the box!
Okay, looking better here!
Here's one of my good friends Nicki getting warmed up for her round. She kicked butt!
And here is Stephen's very last rep on his very last round. He won the whole competition with over 380 reps!
All in all it was a lot of fun! I ended up getting third in my division with 324 reps! It was fun to see how far you can push yourself...stay tuned for next month's Muddy Buddy report...Molly and I are headed out again to beat our time!

Double Dare Ya

So today was Urban Dare Day! Molly came down from Austin and we took on 53 other teams who were ready for the scavenger hunt type event in Downtown San Antonio.

This is the sheet below we were given at high noon, when the race began. I knew we were in trouble when a guy walked past us before the start, with one of those bluetooth phones in his ear, and said, "So how many clue finders do we have online and ready to go?"

Well, we had three for us... my Dad, Ryan (my brother), and Jeremy. It was great...Ryan tried really hard not to laugh when he told us we had to go to the corner of South Flores and Chihuahua Street for one of the clues....well, we are in San Antonio folks!
See, they give you the list of 11 clues to find, and then you can either
1) Solve them by yourself
2) Phone a friend
3) Sneakily follow other groups and hope they know where they are going!

Yup, we phoned a friend, and in about 15-20 minutes knew where all 11 locations were...it was now just a race against time to get there on foot and complete the challenges!

After Molly and I were all done with the race we came back here and mapped out our route just to see how far we ran and if we could have done it more efficiently any other way. Our total route distance was 6.3 miles!!

Here are some of the photos that we had to take along the way....

Question 1: We all know where the Tower of the America's is, but can you find the Fiesta Tower? Get your picture with it. ---- so we ran off to the central library for this one!
Question 2: Go to the park across from the Spirit of Healing mural for your 3 legged dare ---- so we ran off to the Christa Santa Rosa Hospital and then had to run about 1/4 mile tethered together....and I'd like to add that we ran it without totally wiping each other out! =)

Oh yes, this is what you think it is...a human pyramid! Molly got this family to do this for us for a bonus 5 minutes off our final time! She is that good...and there was a little miscommunication about them thinking they were on that show "Amazing Race" and that this would get them on TV...but we just went with it! =)

Question 4: He once said, "Ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made." Get your picture with his memorial. ---- So we ran to City Hall and got our picture with FDR!
Question 6: When they first began building this ship, she was going to be the light cruiser USS Newark. Before she launched she was converted to an Independence class small aircraft carrier and launched in 1943. Former president George Bush once service on her. Get your picture with her bell. (This one threw Jeremy, our clue hunter, off track, but he called back later, after switching from Google to Bing, and he found it!) --- We headed to the Bexar County Courthouse for this one!
Question 8: Go to the plaque that marks where Carl Gunther's upper mill once stood for your beanbag dare. -- so we ran to the King William district for this one -- and it was here that we saw one team jump out of a waiting cab! Sneaky, very sneaky!
Question 11: Get your picture with the sculpture La Puerta, which was a gift from Monterrey Mexico. -- So we ran off to Hemisphere park to find this one. Though we did have to call my dad a few times to get a better description of what we were looking for....he kept saying, "I don't know, it just looks like a little door!!"
Question 5: He was a founder of and the first president of the American Federation of Labor. Go to his statue for your wheelbarrow dare. --- So we ran to the front of the Convention Center to see Samuel Gomper's statue and do our challenge -- and yes, there were tourists taking pictures of us while we did this!
Question 9: This first lady was known for fostering the program to plant wildflowers along highways and to limit billboards. Get your picture with her fountain. --- and my dad yells out on the phone "Lady Bird Johnson!" -- Great dad, now we just have to find her fountain! -- so we were headed to the street right next to the Alamo for this one!
And finally...drum roll people! We ran back to the start just in time to see them taking photos of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. We finished in 7th place!!! With a time of 2 hours and 14 minutes!

Thanks to our clue finders and our amazing navigating skills! Next time you are lost somewhere you know who to call!
Just for fun...the winning team finished at 1 hour 9 minutes...we're pretty sure they must have cheated and taken cabs or have super human flying abilities!

100 Crossfit Sessions

On Tuesday I hit my 100th Crossfit Session! Very exciting....I started out on April 6th and have been going strong ever since.

To celebrate I decided a little custom t-shirt would be the way to go....and so I tried my hand at Zazzle.com. Love that site...you can make a t-shirt, coffee mug, or mouse pad for pretty much any occasion. I'm hooked! I'm already trying to come up with a t-shirt design for my birthday next year...it is 08-09-10 ...tell me that isn't t-shirt worthy!

Here's the shirt I designed.

It says "Can't Breathe, Can't Move, Can't Get Enough - 100 WODs and counting." Which just means 100 Workouts Of the Day, and counting. Every day we come in and under the letters "WOD" you will find out what kind of torture you are up for that morning.

Here was workout #99:

So there ya go - just wanted to share my exciting news... 100 WODs and hopefully I can tell you when I hit 200!

Family Frisbee

We were back in D-town for the holiday weekend and took my parents out to play a round of frisbee golf at a course called Towne Lake. We knew it had to be good because it was rated 4 out of 5 frisbees! =) This is our new sport of choice, because it is free, fun, and a great way to get out and see some new places.

On the first tee I went ahead to take action pictures. Just before Jeremy throws he says.."I know I am going to hit the tree you are standing by!"
And yes, he did! Close call for the photographer...not sure if we are getting off to a good start!?

Dad's looking like a pro by the second hole.
So is Jeremy...look at that concentration.
Even Mom's got her frisbee headed in the right direction!Mine took a bit of a nasty curve at the end.
Just when Mom thought that no one was looking, she went for the slam dunk...oh, caught cha Mama!
Jer lasers onto the basket with his putt...
But don't worry, he had his fair share of close calls...he almost went swimming on this one!
And this is my proudest moment of the day...see, that is me, WAY far away...I actually made this shot! As in threw it straight into the basket...my furthest shot made EVER!
Dad's getting the hang of it...see the hole way down there on the right a little.
Sorry, had to put this one up too!
Mom wins the prettiest throw award.
And the evening concluded watching the first Nebraska football game of the season...with football shaped cheese ball and all!
Jeremy was a very happy camper!...because they won...though I think the cheese ball helped!

Baby Zoe

Another baby to announce!! And even though Mike and Lisa did not opt to name this little girl after me, I will take it as a compliment that little Zoe Annabelle did try to come on my birthday!

Here are Lisa, Mike, and little Zoe sporting the leopard print.
She was born August 10, 2009, at 9:30pm.

She's already rooting for Jesuit, I better go get her an Ursuline Bear quick!

Here's Mike, already taking on the fatherly duties...very impressive! Mike and I go way back to first grade. We were both in the same Sunday school, and had our first communion together. I like this snapshot...it almost looks like he got stuck wearing a veil with flowers too!

Congrats Mike and Lisa! We are so excited for you two...can't wait to see Zoe!
