Polo or Pollo?

Okay, all of my non-spanish speaking friends out there... I need your help on this one!! Even my Italian speaking friends...you can help me too!

So a couple of weeks ago Jeremy and I went out to a nice Mexican Restaurant for dinner, Paloma Blanca. I'm trying hard to not order the very wost possible caloric option on the menu (in terms of soaked in cream sauces). So I spot a nice grilled chicken dish....bingo! That's what I will get...okay, so it had a little cream sauce on it... I'll push that to the side! Hopefully my trainers aren't reading this! =)

Here's what I spotted on the menu:
So the waiter comes to take our order and I say..."I'd like the Pollo al Cilantro"...but I say the "pollo" part more like this sport below, "polo."


Jeremy almost had to hide under the table he was so embarrassed! In fact, I think he might have choked a little on the chips and salsa...but don't worry, the heimlich maneuver was not needed!

He says, "Oh my gosh Rory...you have lived in Texas your ENTIRE life and you don't know how to order CHICKEN in SPANISH!!....It's pronounced "Poy-yo," not "Polo!"

Well who knew that?!! Seriosuly people, help me out here! I'm sorry, but if I'm getting chicken it is at my local HEB grocery store or at KFC... I've never frequented our local "El Pollo Loco," and I do know enough Spanish to tell you that means "crazy chicken!"


Plus, you say "pollo" in italian, just like the sport...and I know a lot more Italian than Spanish. Guess I prooved that at this dinner! Needless to say I won't make that mistake again...and maybe if I am stuck somewhere in south San Antonio and need a meal, I will know how to order chicken!
