Doctor #2

Yesterday we headed to Doctor #2, the hand specialist. They took Jer back for his x-ray and when he came back he looked really sad. When I asked him what was wrong, he said he had overheard the x-ray tech saying his thumb was broken too! Greeattt, this should be a fun recovery process!

But luckily, when the doctor finally came over, we found out that Jer had overheard them talking about another patient! So Jer's injury stands at the 4th and 5th metacarple fractured. Here's an x-ray of a similar injury, but not Jer's:

It's amazing how much better we felt getting this news, based on the fact that we thought his thumb was broken too. Maybe that would be a good technique for doctors.... "So, we think we will have to amputate...just kidding, you have to be in a cast for 6 weeks!"

That photo of Jer is how he is supposed to walk around for the next 10 days, with his arm elevated to reduce swelling, so they can put the real cast on next Friday. So, if you see him walking around town, make sure that arm is up! =)

As he walked out of the doctor's office yesterday I couldn't help but crack up as I watched him walk to his car with his arm out at a 90 degree angle... and wonder how long that would last!
